Research

Created in 2000, the LaMIPS (semiconductor physics and micro-electronics laboratory) is the product of a partnership between the joint guardians of the CRISMAT laboratory (CNRS, University of Caen and ENSICAEN) and the companies NXP Semiconductors and Presto Engineering Europe.

Its missions

LaMIPS' mission is to develop and perfect innovative methods for the characterisation and analysis of microelectronic systems.
In order to do so, the laboratory focuses its efforts on 5 key themes:
  •  default analysis - material specification - reliability - radiofrequency/hyperfrequency characterisation and electric modelling - process development.
LaMIPS works, in particular, on the issues and challenges generated by the adoption of new and complex integrated systems, specifically Systems-in-Package (SiP) and Systems-on-Chip (SoC).

The laboratory works in partnership with the Mov'eo and TES competitiveness clusters, together with many leading industrial and academic players. It is also a member of the Lower Normandy CNRT in Materials (National Technological Research Centre).

In a few words:

Philippe Descamps, Director of LaMIPS

"It's a unique workplace. Here, academic skills in fundamental research and in the research and development of industrial applications are reunited.  In concrete terms, in-house engineers and university researchers, together with PhD students (who collectively comprise a team of 60) ponder and pool their skills and knowledge on the entire defensive system of semiconductors. Here, we work on systems microelectronics on a nanometric scale. And the aim of our research is quite simple: to enable manufacturers like NXP to improve their components, faster and better."
