M'SIP
The Science park positions itself as a facilitator for teachers, students, researchers, project initiators and innovative high technology entrepreneurs, aiming at accelerating innovation, resources and mutual reflection. It ensures that research potential adequately matches the skilled personnel required by the park's businesses or working in the IMD field.
There are several determining factors conferring the Science park its perfect legitimacy within such fields of activity:
- the international influence of Caen – a city committed to high technology mobile experimentation (Near Field Communication) – and to the development of monetics (NXP Semi Conductors, Oberthur CS, France Telecom R&D)
- a dense and coherent regional network of public and private research partners (CNRS - National Centre for Scientific Research, NXP Semi Conductors, Silicon Laboratories, France Telecom R&D, LATEMS - Secure electronic transactions, monetics and security laboratory, LAMIP - ISMRA-Philips Microelectronics Laboratory) higher education institutions (ENSICAEN - National Superior School of Engineering, University)
- government approval of Normandy-based competitiveness clusters: MOV'EO (motor industry), TES (secure electronic transactions), LSN (logistics), Polymers Technologies (plastics), Horse industry. Indeed, all of these competitiveness clusters rely on the excellence of higher education and research institutions, and the Science park aims at acting as a technological platform.
- the launch of Europe's only higher education course in the field of electronic miniaturization: M'SIP (System-in-Package)
- the fact that the Science park has been developed in Normandy spontaneously endorses the ethical dimension of research carried out in the IMD field: in the global collective imagination, Normandy portrays a message of freedom and mobilization based on humanistic ideals.
